With the growing demand for home delivery and the pressure of delivering products at the fastest pace, delivery partners across the world are having a tough time. It’s even more difficult when some of them have financial constraints and have resorted to taking up the profession to survive.

A Twitter thread brought into light such a delivery partner from Zomato.

Twitteratti Crowdfunds To Buy Bike For Zomato Delivery Partner Who Lost Teaching Job
Durga Meena, the Zomato delivery partner

As per the posts, the delivery partner lost his teaching job due to COVID 19 pandemic and had to find employment here for sustenance. The user, Aditya Sharma, was touched to see the man deliver food in the scorching heat of 42 Degree Celsius in Rajasthan on a bicycle.

When Aditya asked the food delivery partner about his whereabouts, the man said that his name was Durga Meena. He had a B.Com. degree and was teaching for about 12 years before the pandemic. He was talking to Aditya in English.

Meena aspired to pursue M.Com.  He knows everything about the internet and wants to have his own laptop with good WiFi so he can teach students online.

But unfortunately, he lost his job during the lockdown and has been a delivery partner ever since. He has been delivering for 4 months and earning around 10k a month.

What was even more disheartening was that the 31-year-old didn’t even have the money to buy a bike. Meena requested Aditya to help him pay the down payment and that he could manage the EMI by himself. He even promised Aditya that he will return the down payment.

This stirred Aditya and he started a crowdfund on Twitter to raise Rs 75,000 to get Meena a bike.

To his surprise, people were more than generous and willing to help.

It took only 4 hours for Aditya to raise all the money!

And finally, on April 12, Aditya bought a bike for Meena. The latter was quite emotional on receiving the vehicle.

The incident drew the attention of Zomato who has informed Aditya that even the company would like to reward and help the delivery partner.

Netizens are filled with praise for Aditya and this has evidently boosted him for in the final tweet he has offered to help many more people in need through crowdfunding.

“With great power comes great responsibility. I promise to all my friends on Twitter. In the future, I will also continue to help needy persons through crowdfunding with a proper target reached based on websites like Milaap etc. Thank you so much for your support,” he wrote.

We need more people like him who can empathize with and help those in need.
