Waghya
Waghya, which means Tiger in Marathi, is the most famous dog in Indian history. Owned by Chatrapati Shivaji, Waghya was deeply shaken after his death. Fido
On December 30, 1943, during the Second World War, the city of Borgo San Lorenzo in Italy was subjected to a violent air raid which killed many. One of the deceased was Carlo Soriani, a brick kiln worker who had a pet street dog named Fido. Fido used to wait for his master by the bus stop every day. The same evening, Fido went to the bus-stop awaiting Soriani. On not spotting the master get off the bus, Fido went back disheartened. From that day on, he visited the bus-stop every day for 14 years hoping to see the man he had been missing terribly.
Hachikō
Just like Fido, Hachikō used to greet his master nearby Shibuya station. One tragic day, though, Hachikō’s master died of a cerebral hemorrhage. Hachikō however, continued to show up at the station for the next 9 years, 9 months, and 15 days, apparently at the precise right time when the train, which his master used to get off from, was due to arrive at the station. You can watch the movie ‘Hachi: A Dog’s Tale’ featuring Richard Gere and go all mushy.
‘Tommy’ (also known as Ciccio)
Tommy was a regular visitor at Santa Maria Assunta church in Italy where he went with his owner, Margherita Lochi. After Lochi passed away, Tommy followed her coffin and was present at her funeral. Since then Tommy went to the church every day and sat by the altar, silently.
Talero
After his owner Bernardo Leónidas Quirós died in a snowstorm in Argentina, his pet dog Talero took the charge of keeping his body protected for several days. Talero is said to have warded off wild animals from attacking his deceased master, and for his own survival in the snow, he hunted small animals. The dog slept beside his master, with the intention of keeping him warm and sheltered from the harsh winds. When the police finally found the body, he barked frantically as if sensing danger for his master or, asking the authority to leave him alone with his master.
Bobbie the Wonder Dog
In the year 1923, Bobbie was accidentally separated from his family, while they were on a road trip in Indiana. The family searched the dog extensively but could not find him. To their surprise, 6 months later, Bobbie appeared. He was there at the doorstep gotten all scrawny and bony from the long walk that he set all the way from Indiana to his home in Oregon. He crossed a whopping distance of 4,105 km to come back to his family. Bobbie must have traveled about 23 km each day to make it possible.
Baekgu
Baekgu’s owner was broke. His poor economic condition made him sell Baekgu. Yet after a brief 7 months, the dog traveled back and reached home after traveling 300 Km.
